Inside The Creations: May Birthstone

Birthstones connect rare and unique gemstones with the months of the year. They can be a meaningful gift for those celebrating a birthday or birth when that month's stone is incorporated into handcrafted, one-of-a-kind jewelry that tells a unique story.

Read below to learn about this month's birthstone and custom jewelry pieces created by Original Eve that feature May's Birthstone: Emerald.

May Birthstone: Emerald

Over the last year, I have had the opportunity to create several custom jewelry designs using May's beloved birthstone. The range of styles speaks to the versatility of emerald and the universality of adoration for its lush green hue.

This heirloom redesign transformed an Emerald ring purchased at auction into a meaningful future heirloom in celebration of Victoria's 30th birthday.

This ring is designed in platinum and is infused with Deco inspiration. Single cut round diamonds from the original ring are arranged in a walled halo. On the right and left of the emerald, 5mm diamond baguettes add geometry and play up the elongated format of the emerald. The emerald is raised slightly above the halo and is offset to float in a bezel edged with milgrain.

The band flairs to a 5mm width as it approaches the halo to match the length of the baguettes. The band flair is echoed in the gallery of the basket with V shaped platinum supports at the north and south of the emerald.

With Art Deco inspired motifs and edged with an abundance of milgrain detail, this ring has been transformed from drab to timelessly fab, playing up the extraordinary features of the materials used to create what is sure to become a treasured heirloom.

This diamond and emerald eternity band was custom created as a “push present” in honor of the birth of Zara for her mother, Katie. We created a ring to stack with the ring celebrating their daughter Grace's birth and the marquise engagement ring that began their adventure as a family.

This 18k recycled yellow gold band alternates two round brilliant diamonds with rich green emerald marquise. Two diamonds for Baby #2! A fitting and regal welcome for Zara Elizabeth Frances Green.

The 1.02-carat round brilliant diamond pops as the focal point of this custom engagement ring in a timeless setting using four tapered prongs on a delicate 18k yellow gold band. The ring is designed to be feminine and delicate, with a flourish of emeralds scattered around the ring to create a lacy silhouette.

As a nod to the bride-to-be's Colombian heritage, we included Colombian emeralds with a light green hue selected to echo the emerald jewelry she has been gifted by family. The emeralds are various sizes and are sprinkled down the band and around the basket--a discreet drizzle of color to guide the eye around the ring and add a playful and joyful pop to the traditional setting.

This solitaire engagement ring was made using an heirloom diamond, gifted to the bride by her brother to add "something old" to her wedding celebrations. Using the inspiration of Art Deco design, this platinum engagement ring features a halo of diamonds offset by an elegant negative space. With Princess Cut Diamonds set on the bias at north and south and baguette Emeralds blending the basket into the band, the interest of this ring lies in the details.
